Marshall Softball Blanks Central Michigan in Saturday Split

Herd faces Indiana Sunday morning to close weekend
TUCSON, Ariz. — Marshall's softball team (8-6) is 2-2 on the weekend after shutting out Central Michigan before dropping the night cap to the 23rd-ranked Arizona Wildcats
Freshman Kaleea Washington's first-career start became a victory to highlight MU's efforts Saturday.
First Game: Marshall 4, Central Michigan 0
Washington's starting debut was aided with a run in the 1st and three in the 2nd by Marshall's offense. Driving in the runs were locals Brooklyn Ulrich and Sydney Bickel. Both Herd hitters have 10 RBI with .370-plus averages after Saturday's games. Ulrich's career-high for RBI in a season is 14. Bickel's two-run home run in the 2nd gives her two on the season, a career-high for the power slapper.
Washington held the Chippewas to just one hit after the opening frame. Marshall's freshman pitcher went 4.2 innings, striking out two, forcing eight ground ball outs.
Junior Bub Feringa entered in the 5th and squashed multiple CMU rallies to save her first of the season.
Second Game: Arizona 10, Marshall 2 (5 innings)
The Herd started the game with three consecutive hits, while scoring a pair of runs to jump on the Wildcats, 2-0.
Arizona responded with two on the 2nd, a run in the 3rd and 4th and six in the 5th to run-rule the Herd.
UP NEXT
Marshall closes the Hillenbrand Invitational with Indiana at 11 a.m Sunday, 9 local time. The Herd will meet up with Coach Shonda Stanton's Hoosiers.
