Bilby, Thomas both shoot 1-under to lead Marshall on Day 1
GOODYEAR, Ariz. – Marshall's Ryan Bilby and Clayton Thomas each shot a 1-under par to lead the Herd to a tie for 7th place after Day 1 of the Loyola Intercollegiate at Palm Valley Golf Club in Goodyear, Arizona.
"It was a really good first round of the spring," Marshall Men's Golf coach Matt Grobe said. "The guys hit a lot of good shots today. Clayton and Ryan both shot well with 1-under-par rounds."
Both players ended their rounds with a flurry to get into the red numbers. Bilby birdied two of his last five holes to get under par while Thomas was able to knock down three birdies in his final six, including a birdie on No. 2 – his last hole of the day – to move under-par as well.
That flurry was good enough to move the Herd up the leaderboard and into the Top-10 after a tight first round of action.
Marshall is currently at 2-under for the tournament following the rounds by Bilby and Thomas, along with a pair of Even-par rounds from Tyler Jones and Joseph Kalaskey.
"Tyler bounced back from a slow start to finish his round at Even," Grobe said. "Joseph played solid all day long to finish at Even-par, too."
Monday's second round gets underway at 9:45 a.m. ET/ 7:45 a.m. MT from Palm Valley Golf Club.
