Freshman under par for 2nd time in two days; McLatchey shoots final round 68
PHOENIX, Ariz. – Marshall freshman Kasey McIlvaine finished in a tie for 13th place after her second round under par in as many days at the GCU Invitational at GCU Golf Course in Phoenix, Ariz.
McIlvaine, who shot an opening round 69, followed it up with a final round 71 (1-under) to finish the tournament at 2-under overall. The highlight of her round was an eagle on the par-5 10th hole that put her back under par for the day.
In addition to McIlvaine's strong showing, Marshall junior Emily McLatchey ended the tournament with momentum after a 4-under 68 – one of the best final rounds of any competitor in the field.
McLatchey's back nine at GCU Golf Club included three birdies that helped produce the final round 68.
All of Marshall's golfers either maintained or improved their scores from Tuesday's rounds to finish the tournament strong.
The Herd was one of only 10 teams to shoot Even par or better as a team in the final round, which helped the team vault to a 13th place finish.
Marshall does not have much turnaround time before its next tournament. The Herd women's golfers tee it up next on Monday at the UNCW Invitational in Wallace, North Carolina.
