PENSACOLA, Fla. – A record-setting season comes to the brink of a championship on Monday with the Marshall Thundering Herd facing the James Madison Dukes for the 2024 Hercules Tires Sun Belt Conference Women's Basketball Championship. Tip from the Pensacola Bay Center Monday is at 2 p.m. EST/1 p.m. CST on ESPNU.

PRE-GAME NOTES

  • Marshall is looking to defeat the Dukes for the second time this season. The Herd beat JMU, 77-70, in Harrisonburg on Jan. 24.
  • Following Sunday's win, Marshall has now won 23 of its last 25 games.
  • Abby Beeman overcame a slow start to lead the Herd to its semifinal win over Old Dominion. Beeman scored 11 of 13 points during one stretch of a 19-2 run as the Herd took control of the game in the second half. Beeman finished with 22 points and six assists.
  • Aislynn Hayes had the 10th 20-point game of her season on Sunday, knocking down four 3-pointers en route to scoring 20 points for the Herd.
  • The Herd set a new program record for wins in a season in the SBC semifinal win over Old Dominion, breaking the previous record of 24, set in 1986-87.
  • Marshall won its first regular-season conference title in 35 years by winning the 2024 SBC regular season title. The Herd will attempt to win its first conference tournament title and advance to its second NCAA Tournament appearance (1997).
  • The Herd's regular season title run came with accolades. Coach Kim Caldwell was named SBC Coach of the Year, while Abby Beeman was named the league's Player of the Year

ABOUT JAMES MADISON

  • James Madison comes into Monday's contest after defeating Louisiana, 64-54, in a game that was close into the final seconds of the game.
  • The Dukes are the defending Sun Belt Champions and are looking to return to the NCAA Tournament.
  • JMU was the only team to defeat Marshall in Sun Belt action this season, defeating the Herd, 72-63, in Huntington on Feb. 3.
  • The Dukes are led by guard Peyton McDaniel, who averages team-bests with 14.7 points and 7.1 rebounds per game.
