Game Two Saturday at 3 p.m.
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — The Herd (14-12, 0-1 SBC) fell one big hit short in a 4-3 defeat to Georgia Southern (16-7, 1-0 SBC) Friday evening at Dot Hicks Field.
After Marshall went behind early 3-0, the Herd produced tying runs on base in the 4th, 5th and 7th, but were unable to level the scoring.
Driving in the runs were Reagan Glanz and Rielly Lucas in support of pitcher Bub Feringa. Feringa held the Eagles to one run over the final six innings after a two-strike, two-out home run to dead center gave the visitors an early three-run advantage.
A two-out RBI double by Glanz scored Lucas in the 4th to put MU on the board. Glanz would later score on an errant throw following a Kasia Parks bunt single.
After the Eagles scratched across a run in the top of the 6th, Lucas's third home run of the year to right again put Marshall behind a run.
