Herd Men’s Golf Finishes Day One At ECU Intercollegiate

Jones in Top-25 after first day of competition at Brook Valley
GREENVILLE, N.C. – Marshall Men's Golf finished Day One of action at the ECU Intercollegiate on Monday.
Following the first 36 holes of action, Marshall senior Tyler Jones led the team with a pair of 75s to put him in the Top-25 heading into Tuesday's final round of action.
"I saw some flashes of good play, but we just didn't convert anything today," Marshall Men's Golf coach Matt Grobe said. "We were really frustrated with our play. The guys fought hard, but just couldn't turn the tide."
Jones found a bit of a rhythm in the second round, converting five birdies in the round, which was the most among any Marshall player on Monday.
Playing as an individual, Marshall freshman Ben Bridges also had a strong start to his day with a 3-over 75 in his first round. He was the lone Marshall golfer to have multiple birdies in both rounds of action on Monday.
Marshall senior Joseph Kalaskey also overcame a rough start to his second round to go 2-under on his final nine holes of the day to take momentum into Tuesday's final round.
The Herd currently sits in 12th place in the field, but is looking to make a move on Tuesday to finish strong.
"Hopefully, tomorrow we will turn it around and post a good number," Grobe said.
Marshall's team members will tee off from Hole No. 10 starting at 8 a.m. on Tuesday. The team will be paired with Samford and Oakland in tomorrow's round. Bridges will tee off at 9:03 a.m.
