Six-Run 5th Lifts Herd Softball to Road Win

Third-straight conference win for Marshall
HATTIESBURG, Miss. — A three-run home run by Brooklyn Ulrich put the exclamation mark on a Herd 5th inning rally.
Marshall (17-13, 3-1 SBC) used that frame to get the road victory over Southern Miss by a 6-3 score in Hattiesburg. The Herd entered the 5th trailing by a run to the Golden Eagles (12-16, 1-3 SBC).
The third homer of the season for Ulrich was preceded by hits from Bub Feringa, Reagan Glanz, Kasia Parks and Sydney Bickel. The six spot was the most runs in an inning the Herd has scored in a conference game this season.
MU's barrage gave the support starter Savannah Rice needed to earn her sixth win in the circle. Rice went five innings, allowing three runs on five hits with three strikeouts.
Freshman Kaleea Washington closed the game out in the 6th and 7th. Washington forced a pair of groundouts and flyouts to earn her second save of the season.
