Feringa Has Career-Night in Doubleheader Split

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Marshall two-way player Bub Feringa had six hits while throwing over 13 strong innings in the Herd's two games Friday evening at Dot Hicks Field.
In the team's game one win over Ball State, MU's junior pitcher earned the victory, allowing just one earned run en route to a 5-2 takedown of the Cardinals.
Her second-career four-hit performance was key in a narrow 6-4 loss to the ACC's Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
First Game: Marshall 5, Ball State 2
A three-run 4th helped the Herd avenge Thursday's defeat to BSU. A Kasia Parks bunt single to tie the game was one of five Coach Morgan Zerkle's side had in the win. RBI's from Destiny Washington and Rielly Lucas followed in the rally.
In the circle, Feringa scattered four Ball State hits across her seven complete innings. Feringa also induced two double plays involving Sydney Bickel and Brooklyn Ulrich to squash threats from the visitors.
Bickel drove in two in the bottom of the 6th to aid Feringa in the team's three-run win.
Second Game: Notre Dame 6, Marshall 4
Feringa's four hits were one-third of the team's 12 off the Notre Dame ace. Three consecutive RBI doubles brought the Herd to within two with the tying-runner aboard in the 7th.
Marshall held the 2023 NCAA Tournament team to just four hits. ND squeezed the opening run in the 5th following a leadoff walk, before a decisive three-run home run gave the Fighting Irish a sizable lead.
In the second game, Feringa forced 15 ground ball outs.
The Herd opened its scoring in the 6th on a Reagan Glanz RBI triple, the first of her Marshall career.
UP NEXT
Weather permitting, the Herd will face Indiana State at 4 p.m. Saturday from Dot Hicks Field.
