Tyler Jones Named SBC Golfer Of The Week

Marshall senior finished tied for 4th at Mountaineer Invitational
BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Marshall senior Tyler Jones was named as the Sun Belt Conference's Men's Golfer of the Week after finishing tied for 4th place at the Mountaineer Invitational.
Jones finished the tournament at 7-under overall after an incredible week of golf that featured all three rounds at par or better.
"I am so happy for Tyler!" Marshall Men's Golf coach Matt Grobe said. "He played so great this week. What a way to finish his career at Marshall – winning the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week!"
Jones shot an opening-round 66 that propelled him to the early lead in the tournament. His first round featured eight birdies and two bogeys as he set the early pace for the field.
That round included a stretch of nine holes in which he carded seven birdies.
Jones followed that round up with a 1-under 71 that saw Jones notch three birdies in a five-hole stretch that helped him overcome a double-bogey to start his round.
On the final day of action, Jones continued to showcase his ability to score, notching another four birdies en route to a final-round 72 that led him to the T-4 result.
Jones' effort helped lead Marshall to a second-place finish in the team competition.
Jones led all players in the field with 17 birdies on the week and was top-3 in par-4 scoring average in the tournament.
That momentum will carry Jones into the 2024 Sun Belt Men's Golf Championships, which are scheduled to run from Monday to Thursday in Madison, Miss.
