MADISON, Miss. – Marshall Men's Golf advanced to the 2024 Sun Belt Conference Match Play semifinals after finishing in the top-4 in the team standings following Wednesday's final round of stroke play.

The Herd finished tied for third with Texas State in the team standings and will be the No. 3 seed on Thursday, taking on No. 2 seed ULM in the Match Play semifinals. The teams will tee off at 8:30 a.m. from Hole No. 10.

Marshall's strong team finish was led by Ryan Bilby, who finished 3rd in the individual standings, and Tyler Jones, who shot a 3-under 69 on Wednesday to vault into a tie for 7th place.

"I could not be happier for these guys!" Marshall Men's Golf coach Matt Grobe said. "They are such great kids and have worked so hard. Ryan and Tyler played incredible this week and both finished in the top-10, which is great. This has been a fun week and we are looking forward to Match Play tomorrow."

Bilby started out strong on the day, jumping to 3-under on his round and settled in for an Even-par 72 that helped him earn 2024 Sun Belt All-Conference honors after finishing in the top-5. He finished at 3-under for the tournament, just one stroke off the lead.

Jones posted one of the day's best rounds amongst all competitors with five birdies en route to his 3-under 69 that placed him in a tie for 7th in the final standings. With that result, Jones earned four top-10 results and finished in the top-20 in eight of nine events in which he competed in the 2023-24 season.

"Ryan had a chance on the final hole to get in a playoff for the individual title and just missed it," Grobe said. "Tyler had an incredible final round, too."

In addition to Bilby and Jones finishing in the top-10, Marshall's Joseph Kalaskey continued his consistent play for the Herd, posting a 1-under 71 while earning nine pars on his final nine of the tournament to stay in the red.

Thursday's Match Play features the top four teams with the Nos. 1 and 4 seeds taking off from the No. 1 tee while the Nos. 2 and 3 seeds start at No. 10. Both matches will begin at 8:30 a.m. ET.

In Match Play, holes won are counted – not total strokes – with five golfers competing per team and all scores counting.

Individuals who win more holes than the opponent win the match and earn a point for their team. There is no half-points on holes. If tied after 18, the players go to a playoff to determine who wins the match.

The first team to earn three points wins the team match and advances to the championship, which will take place directly after the semifinals and feature the same format.
