Marshall Softball Hits Program-Record Six Home Runs in 15-0 Victory

Herd holds Panthers to one hit in five-inning win
ATLANTA, Ga. — Marshall's softball team exploded for 15 runs on a season-best 16 hits in a series-opening shutout win over Georgia State Friday evening in Atlanta.
The Herd (18-18) set a new program-record with six hits out of Bob Heck Field in southeast Atlanta, including two from Rielly Lucas and Brooklyn Ulrich.
Bub Feringa and Bella Gerlach each tallied a long ball as well. For Gerlach, it was her team-leading 10th of the year. She is one of two players in the conference to have double-digit home runs in 2024.
MU also held Georgia State (10-25) to just one hit in the shutout. Savannah Rice earned the victory with three scoreless frames without a hit. Kaleea Washington finished the game with a strikeout in two innings.
Friday's game was the team's fourth shutout of the season.
On six previous occasions, Marshall had hit five home runs in a game, most recently coming in 2022, but Friday's game was the first game in history with six.
Ulrich's three-run shot in the 2nd marked her second multi-homer game in the last week. The redshirt-sophomore became the first MUSB player in over 15 years to hit multiple grand slams in a season last Thursday.
For Lucas, it marked the Huntington native's first multi-home run game.
The dominant win was the team's 10th game of the year with 10 or more hits.
