Herd Dominant Again Saturday in Road Shutout

Marshall outscoring GSU, 26-0 after first two games of weekend set
ATLANTA, Ga. — The Marshall University softball team (19-18) picked up a second-consecutive road victory in strong fashion with an 11-0 win over Georgia State Saturday.
After hitting a program-record six home runs Friday evening in Atlanta, the Herd picked up right where it left off with a two-run Bella Gerlach shot in the 1st.
Following a second two-run blast in the 6th, Gerlach is tied for the league's lead with 12 this season. She finished the day with four hits and five RBI, both career-highs.
MU had several individual milestones in Saturday's win as well. Freshman Destiny Washington hit her first Marshall home run in the 2nd inning with a lined shot over the right field wall. Freshman Ramey George later tallied her first-career run batted in with a sacrifice fly to left to score Brooklyn Ulrich in the 6th.
Ulrich scored a game-high four runs and drove in a run with a sac fly of her own in the 3rd.
The Marshall offense provided more than enough for junior Bub Feringa, who scattered four hits across five innings of shutout work while striking out one. Feringa, combined with junior Lindsay Henson, kept GSU from scoring for the 11th consecutive inning.
Coach Morgan Zerkle's team worked eight walks on Saturday, a new season-high.
