GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Marshall University Volleyball team (9-4) ended non-conference play and the Greensboro Invitational with a sweep (25-16, 25-19, 25-14) over the host UNCG Spartans on Saturday. MU finished the tournament with a perfect 3-0 record.

"This preseason we were battle tested and came out more resilient than we entered," Herd Volleyball Head Coach Ari Aganus said. "This weekend was a great way to end our preseason and have so much growth as a unit. While there were many amazing individual accolades, our whole team has showed up, and showed out every single day. It's going to be a special year."

Brynn Brown led the way with a match-high 22 assists as Megan Taylor finished tied for the match-high with nine kills. Peyton Neal registered a match-high 16 digs with Beatrice Ciccarelli rejecting a match-high four shots, with two solo blocks.

The Herd trailed the Spartans 3-1 early in the first set of the match. However, a 9-0 run, led by three service aces from Neal, put Marshall at a 10-3 advantage. MU kept UNCG at bay the rest of the set by letting its lead dip below six heading clinging the opening frame at 25-16. The Herd had a .286 hitting percentage in the set.

Much like the first, Marshall found itself in a 4-1 deficit early in the second. MU clawed back and gained an 8-7 advantage after a kill by Ciccarelli. The kill was part of a 6-0 run, concluded by an Olivia Fogo Kill, to give the visitors a 10-7 lead. The Herd took the second 25-19 as UNCG committed a pair of attacking errors to end the frame.

In the third, despite the first 22 points being hotly contested with the teams tied at 11, Marshall never trailed in the final frame. The Herd dominated the Spartans down the stretch by capturing the 14 of the final 17 points to seal the set, 25-14, for the sweep. MU's offense hit a match-high .308 in the final frame.
