CONWAY, S.C. – The Marshall University Volleyball team (9-5, 0-1 SBC) fell in its Sun Belt Conference opener at Coastal Carolina (5-7, 1-0 SBC) in three sets (25-16, 25-21, 25-21) on Friday night in Conway, South Carolina.
"We knew tonight was going to be a tough match," Herd Volleyball Head Coach Ari Aganus said. "I'm proud of the grit we showed and resilience, but we didn't execute our game plan and had too many unforced errors to be able to compete the way we wanted to. We get another opportunity tomorrow and can't wait to compete!"
Brynn Brown led the way with a match-high 25 assists as Peyton Neal recorded a match-high 16 digs. Audrey Geer added a match-high 13 kills.
After falling 25-16 in the first, The Herd trailed 20-10 late in the second set. Marshall went on an 11-4 run to close the gap at 24-21 after a kill by Olivia Fogo. CCU closed out the set with the final point to take it 25-21.
In the third, Marshall found itself down 18-12 late in the frame. The Herd captured seven of the next nine points to close the deficit to 20-19 after a kill by Sarah Wadsworth to catch back up with CCU. The Chanticleers then took five of the final seven points to take the set and match 25-21. MU hit a match-high .282 in the second.
