CONWAY, S.C. – The Marshall University Volleyball team (9-6, 0-2 SBC) battled in a three-set loss (27-25, 25-20, 25-28) on the road to Coastal Carolina (6-7, 2-0 SBC) on Saturday in Conway, S.C.
"I'm proud that we executed better than yesterday," Herd Volleyball Head Coach Ari Aganus said. "We had some really bright moments and some moments that we need to clean up and not continue to error the same way. Coastal is a very strong team across the board and exposed areas we need to improve on. This group stays hungry to learn, each week we have and will continue to improve!"
Brynn Brown recorded a match-high 23 assists and a team-high nine digs with Audrey Geer registering 11 kills and Beatrice Ciccarelli rejecting five Chanticleer attacks.
The two sides clawed it out in the first set. The Herd trailed 7-3 early in the opening set. MU chipped away at the CCU advantage until a 7-1 run, ending with a Coastal attacking error, saw Marshall take a 17-13 lead. The Chanticleers rallied back to tie the set 23-23. The two teams traded points before Coastal Carolina scratched out the final two points to take the first by a narrow margin of 27-25. The opening frame the score tied nine times with three lead changes.
MU faced a seven-point deficit, 10-3, but didn't waver in the second set. The Green and White fought back to tie the match 14-14, 16-16 and 19-19. The comeback fell short with CCU taking the set 25-20.
The third set was tight seeing the scoreboard tied 12 times along with seven lead changes as the score was deadlocked 17-17 late in the frame. However, the home took eight of the last nine points to take the set and match from The Herd.
