HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University Men's Basketball team (8-8, 1-2 SBC) faltered down the stretch in 58-57 loss to the Troy Trojans (10-4, 3-0 SBC) Saturday evening in the Cam Henderson Center.

"Obviously, we didn't come out on the winning side," Herd Men's Basketball Head Coach Corny Jackson said after the loss. "It was what we expected, physical. These guys played hard; our guys played hard. They just made a view more plays down the stretch."

Obinna Anochili-Killen registered a 17-point contest on an 8-for-12 day from the field. The Nigerian brought down a game-high nine boards while rejecting five shots for the second time of the weekend.

Nate Martin dished out a team-best four assists to go with nine points in the game.

The first half was all Herd. MU started the game on a 12-2 run with five points from Jalen Speer, four from Anochili-Killen, a jumper from Dezayne Mingo and a freebie from Martin to lead by 10 points 15:54 into the ballgame.

The Trojans used a couple of runs to cut the Green and White's lead to three, 19-16, with 7:31 left in the first half. However, Marshall rattled off 12 of the final 15 minutes of the half, including a triple from Speer in the final seconds, to lead 31-19 at halftime.

The Herd opened the second half with a layup from Anochili-Killen to take its largest lead of the game at 14 points, 33-19. Troy answered with three runs of at least six points as the visitors took its first lead of the game, 39-38, at the 12:05 mark. MU quickly regained the lead with a Ryan Nutter layup 17 seconds later.

Both sides struggled down the stretch from the field with each team making just one field goal in the final 6:50 of the ballgame. A Jackson Fields make from the free-throw line with 26 seconds to go gave Troy a one-point advantage, 58-57. A Mikal Dawson three-point attempt in the waning seconds missed the mark as The Herd fell for just the second time at home this season.

Marshall outrebounded Troy 37-36 and tallied more points in the paint, 34-24.
