Marshall Football’s 2025 Cross-Divisional Opponents Revealed

Herd to host Texas State, travel to Louisiana; all 12 opponents now known for 2025

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall Football now has all 12 of its opponents for the first season under head coach Tony Gibson in 2025.
On Thursday morning, the Sun Belt Conference released the 2025 cross-divisional opponents, which have Texas State and Louisiana – two of the SBC West's top teams – on the Herd's schedule.
Marshall will host Texas State at Joan C. Edwards Stadium while traveling to Cajun Field for a rematch of the 2024 SBC Championship, which the Herd won 31-3.
"It's exciting to learn those opponents and know who we will face in the 2025 season," Marshall head coach Tony Gibson said. "We know that Texas State and Louisiana were two of the best in the SBC West last season, so it will be a challenge, but that only adds to the excitement. With all our opponents known, we are one step closer to our first season in Huntington!"
The announcement comes without dates or times – those are likely to be released later in spring, along with television considerations – but it does give the Herd its full slate of opponents for Gibson's first season leading the Herd.
Barring any changes to the Sun Belt Conference East Division schedule, Marshall also knows its home opponents and road opponents for the 2025 season.
Home games will include Missouri State and Eastern Kentucky in the non-conference slate while SBC home action includes Texas State, Georgia Southern, Old Dominion and James Madison.
Road games will feature the season-opener at Georgia and a trip to Middle Tennessee in the non-conference portion with games at App State, Coastal Carolina, Georgia State and Louisiana.
The season-opener at Georgia is scheduled for Aug. 30.
