PRE-GAME NOTES
This will be the first-ever meeting between Marshall and Texas State. It could also be the last for the foreseeable future as the Bobcats move to the Pac-12 in 2026.
Texas State head coach G.J. Kinne is no stranger to Marshall, however, having played the Herd in Conference USA when he was quarterback at Tulsa.
Marshall comes into the contest off a 48-24 win over Old Dominion in which they forced many mistakes. The Herd defense produced three turnovers and got three fourth-down stops – two inside the 5-yard line – and special teams recovered two muffed punts to help propel the team to victory.
This week's contest matches up the two top-scoring offenses in the Sun Belt Conference. Texas State leads the league, averaging 36.0 points per game while the Herd is right behind in second at 34.3.
This week's game is Homecoming 2025 – the 124th Homecoming in Marshall Football history. Currently, the team has an all-time record of 69-46-8 in Homecoming games. For more information to Know Before You Go to the game, click HERE.
ABOUT MARSHALL
Marshall comes into this week's game after a resounding 48-24 win over Old Dominion in which the Herd led by 38 points in the second half, based on the strength of the best performance of the year in all three phases.
Offensively, quarterback Carlos Del Rio-Wilson continues to shine as he leads the country in quarterback efficiency (198.0) and is second in completion percentage. Last week, he was 17 of 24 passing for 219 yards and two touchdowns while he rushed for another 95 yards and a score.
Wide receiver DeMarcus Lacey once again stole the receiving spotlight, catching eight passes for 121 yards and a touchdown. It was Lacey's third-consecutive game with 100 yards or more receiving. This week, he will look to join elite company in Marshall lore as only the fifth player to record four straight 100-yard receiving games.
Defensively, Marshall cornerback Boogie Trotter earned national and league awards after his performance last week. Trotter was named Frisco Bowl Defensive Player of the Week, to PFF's All-Defensive Team for the week and also SBC Defensive Player of the Week after accounting for two of Marshall's three turnovers. Trotter returned an interception 22 yards for a touchdown and later forced and recovered a fumble that led to another Herd score.
Trotter is currently tied for No. 2 nationally in turnovers accounted for with five and is tied for No. 3 in FBS in interceptions with four.

Lincoln Pare leads the Texas State ground attack with 581 yards rushing and eight touchdowns on the season. Quarterback Brad Jackson also has completed 105 of 150 passes for 1,342 yards and 7 TDs while rushing for 336 yards and another 7 TDs.
