HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University Volleyball team (11-10, 3-5 SBC) registered a second consecutive sweep (25-23, 25-13, 25-17) of ULM on Friday to finish the weekend at the Cam Henderson Center.
"Great day for us. Obviously, I think offensively, things were really flowing," Herd Volleyball Head Coach Heather Stout said after the win. "Obviously, the middles, (Marae) Riley and (Beatrice) Ciccarelli finishing the match with over 40 attempts and a plus 400 was huge for us. That was like something we said that we wanted to set the tone with the matches, getting them kind of flowing and going offensively was huge."
Logan Henderson paced the Herd with 14 kills on just 20 swings, hitting .650 and anchoring a Marshall offense that hit .398 for the match. Emma Barnett added 13 kills and three aces, while Beatrice Ciccarelli turned in nine kills on .562 hitting and a service ace. Setter Bella Thompson distributed 30 assists and chipped in seven digs.
The opener saw both teams trade points in a tense back-and-forth battle. Marshall built a three-point lead at 22-19 before ULM rallied to tie at 23. The Herd held off multiple set points, finally clinching the frame 25-23 on a ULM attack error.
Marshall seized control early in the second, racing to an 8-1 lead behind aggressive serving from Barnett and clean attacking from Henderson and Ciccarelli. The Herd never looked back, stretching the margin to double digits and taking the set 25-13.
The Herd continued to apply pressure into the third, jumping ahead 11-4. Marshall hit .556 in the frame, closing out the match 25-17 on Henderson's final kill to complete the sweep.
Marshall's offense finished with 47 kills and just 6 errors on 103 attempts. The Herd served up 6 aces, forced multiple ULM errors, and assisted on 44 of 47 kills.
