HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – A draw was all Marshall (7-4-4, 3-2-4 SBC) needed to clinch its first trip to the Sun Belt Conference Tournament since 2022. The Herd drew 1-1 with Coastal Carolina as sophomore Larissa Ozorio scored the Herd's goal in the second half. Despite the Chanticleers 76th minute equalizer, the result was enough to see Coach Rafa Simoes' side through.
"At the end of the day, still undefeated at home in conference play, and going to the Tournament," Coach Simoes said. "On the Preseason Poll we were 10th and we're already Top-8 with a game to go. Today is a proud day, these girls make us so proud with their effort. Wish we would have got the win but thanks to Herd Nation for the support."
After a tightly contested first half with few clear chances, Larissa Ozorio gave the Herd the lead in the 51st minute, gathering a loose ball just outside the box and driving a low right-footed shot into the bottom left corner. The goal was Ozorio's first of the season and the first of her Marshall career.

Coastal Carolina drew level in the 76th minute, but needed a second to keep its postseason hopes alive. Both teams pushed for a late winner, and Marshall nearly reclaimed the lead in the final seconds when senior defender Madison Townes fired wide at the final whistle. The Herd's senior is one of four who have been with the squad since 2022.
"We have put in so much work every single day, spending so many hours on the field and this is the result," Townes said with a joyous team behind her. "We knew we had to come in and get either a tie or win and we did just that, fighting to the very end."
