COACH RAFA SIMOES

  • Head Coach Rafa Simoes is in year two leading Marshall's women's soccer program. The former associate with the Herd men's team is a 2018 graduate of the University of Charleston in West Virginia, where he played for then-head coach Chris Grassie.
  • Simoes coached 19 newcomers in his first season leading Marshall's women's soccer team. He earned his first win as a head coach on Sept. 1, 2024 in a 1-0 victory over Belmont.

PRE-MATCH NOTES

  • Marshall tied with Coastal Carolina Friday evening which clinched the team's first postseason spot since 2022.
  • From an individual perspective, sophomore Fernanda Dantas is in a race to be the league's leader in assists, coming down to the final match day of the regular season. Dantas is tied with ULM's Margret Edda Bjarnadottir with nine assists, a number which is also tied for 8th nationally.
  • Defender Kajsa Ekstrom has not missed a second of game action this season, playing a full 1,350 minutes. She would be the first Herd player to achieve the mark since Ashley Seltzer did so in the 2018 season.
  • An eighth win for Marshall would mark the most for the program since the 2015 season. A fourth conference win would be the most for the Herd since 2016.

ABOUT THE GOLDEN EAGLES

  • Southern Miss will not be qualifying for the Tournament next week with a 2-13-1 record overall.
  • Redshirt senior Ryan Smith leads a team which has struggled to score with three goals. The team's 12 goals are the fewest in the SBC.
  • Marshall leads the all-time series over Southern Miss, 9-4-3, but is searching for its first win over the Golden Eagles since 2017.
