HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The No. 9 Marshall Men's Soccer team (8-1-5, 5-1-1 SBC) battled to a scoreless draw Sunday evening against the Old Dominion Monarchs in Norfolk, Virginia.
Â
"tough one tonight. I thought the uneven, stop-start nature of the game made getting into rhythm tough," Herd Men's Soccer Head Coach Chris Grassie said. "Especially as ODU's tactic was to sit low and make it a choppy game. Credit to our guys though, as they had to deal with a lot of crazy stuff tonight and they kept their heads. I think our closers did a great job when they went on. They added more attacking, energy and created a lot of chances in the last 20 minutes. A few times we missed passes to be even more dangerous in that period, but overall, they tilted the match massively in our favor."
Â
The Herd defense secured its fourth consecutive clean sheet behind a standout outing from Eddie DeMarco. DeMarco finished with four saves, including key first-half stops in the 21st and 28th minutes.
Â
The first half ended with Marshall seeing no shots. After the break, Larry Noel led the push forward with two attempts, while substitute Keaviano Francis forced a strong save from Old Dominion's Michael Stratham in the 76th minute with a shot on goal by Noel in the 90th.
Â
Both teams finished with limited shots on target—Marshall with two, Old Dominion with four.
Â
NEXT UP
The Herd travels north to Morgantown for the Mountain State Derby against the West Virginia Mountaineers on Friday.
