No. 11 Herd Men’s Soccer Falls at No. 19 WVU

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 11 Marshall Men's Soccer team (8-2-5, 5-2-1 SBC) suffered a 3-0 defeat at No. 19 West Virginia on Friday night in the Mountain State Derby in Morgantown.

"Tough night again. We've played so well lately, but tonight was a deviation from our best at a bad time," Herd Men's Soccer Head Coach Chris Grassie said. "We made too many mistakes that got punished. WVU are very well coached, and they were organized and didn't shoot themselves in the foot. The main turning point for that we didn't respond well to their first goal. Yes, it's two or three mistakes from us that let them in for the goal, but after that we are disappointed with our response."

West Virginia grabbed the early lead in the 23rd minute when Marcus Caldeira finished for the opening goal. The Mountaineers capitalized again in the 63rd minute with Dante Huckaby tallying a goal as Caldeira scored a second goal in the 72nd minute.

Eddie DeMarco made five saves. Marshall had six shots, including a shot on goal from Adam N'Goran and Joao Roberto.

The Mountaineers led 17-6 in total shots, 8-2 in shots on goal, and held the edge in corners, 8-7.

The Herd closes out the regular season on Tuesday night against UCF at Hoops Family Field. Opening kick is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
