- Marshall is led by second-year Head Coach Cornelius 'Corny' Jackson.
- The Herd were picked to finish sixth in the Sun Belt Conference Preseason Coaches Poll.
- Jalen Speer was picked to the preseason all-conference first-team with newcomer Matt Van Komen earning a third-team nod.
- Van Komen averaged 18.0 points and 12.5 rebounds across the team's exhibitions against Alice Lloyd and Davis & Elkins.
ABOUT THE MINUTEMEN
- UMass is led by Frank Martin, who is in his fourth season with the program and the team's first in the Mid-Conference.
- The Minutemen were picked to finish fifth in the MAC Preseason Coaches Poll with Daniel Hankins-Sanford being named to the conference's preseason second-team.
- The senior returns after averaging 9.8 points and 7.4 rebounds last season.
- UMass won a pair of exhibitions over Brown and Rhode Island College.
