MOREHEAD, Ky. – Marshall Women's Basketball turned in a commanding all-around performance Friday afternoon, blitzing USC Upstate 85-54 at a neutral site game at Morehead State to improve to 4-2 on the season.
The Herd wasted no time asserting control, storming out to a 29-7 lead after the opening quarter thanks to a relentless defensive and a barrage of three-pointers. Marshall's pressure forced the Spartans into 10 turnovers and connected on seven of its season-high 16 triples. The 29 points matched the Herd's highest opening quarter output since the 2024 SBC Tournament.
"We know we are a really good shooting team," Head Coach Juli Fulks said. "We have been doing the same drills most of my career [in practice] and we have been blowing those offensive numbers off the charts so eventually it was going to play out in games. We were getting much better looks where our feet were set when the shot was going up."
"We are just getting better playing as a group, so hopefully every week the more we get used to playing together the better we get."
Timaya Lewis-Eutsey spearheaded the effort with 17 points on 6-for-8 shooting. She added six assists, five steals and a team-best plus/minus of 25, driving the Herd's tempo on both ends. Olivia Olson poured in 14 points and drained four three-pointers, while Meredith Maier contributed 12 points, with three rebounds and two assists.
Marshall's offense connected on 16-of-33 three-point attempts for a 48.5 percent clip. Overall, the Herd shot 53.4 percent for the game.
Defensively, the Herd kept up its pace as the Sun Belt Conference leader in defense, forcing 30 turnovers with 21 steals. Coach Fulks' side has 108 steals this season, the highest in the league by a sizable margin.
