Herd’s Comeback Bid Falls Short in Series Finale at College of Charleston

Marshall faces Charleston Southern Sunday at 12:30 p.m.
CHARLESTON, S.C. — A four-run 1st inning was too much to overcome for Marshall Softball (3-5) in a 6-4 defeat in the series finale against College of Charleston (2-6).
The Herd does win the three-game series by way of sweeping Friday's doubleheader.
Entering the 4th inning trailing 6-0, MU rallied with three runs in the frame and one more in the 5th. Senior Bub Feringa drove in runs in each of the two frames. Senior Lindsay Henson picked up an RBI on a single in the three-run 5th as well.
In addition to hitting, Feringa also pitched the final four innings without allowing a run on just three hits. Marshall's two-way player has a 3.06 ERA in 16.0 innings pitched this season.
The Herd's last best change came in the 5th. With the bases loaded and one out, a shallow fly ball off the bat of Paige Simpson was caught by a backtracking second baseman, who turned and made an athletic play to double-up Rielly Lucas going for home. MU was 2-of-6 with runners in scoring position Saturday.
The team's defense also committed three errors. The Herd is 0-4 when committing multiple errors on defense in a game this season.
Marshall travels up the road for one game against Charleston Southern on Sunday at 12:30 p.m.
