Marshall's transfer from Tiffin University earned her first win in the circle after five previous solid outings to begin her Thundering Herd career. King holds a 0.65 ERA in 21.2 innings pitched this season.
The Herd jumped out early with 1st inning doubles from Brooklyn Ulrich and Rielly Lucas to give King the quick advantage. Ulrich - the 2025 Sun Belt Conference Preseason Player of the Year - led Coach Morgan Zerkle's team with three hits from the leadoff spot.
From there, a trio of first-career home runs from Abby Darnley, Haleigh Adkins, and Chandler Hoskins padded the MU lead. Hoskins, the redshirt freshman had two hits in her first-collegiate start in right field.
Marshall will play a doubleheader Saturday against a pair of NCAA Regional opponents from last season. The Herd opens Saturday, Feb. 22 at 12:30 p.m. against Villanova, before playing the hosts Clemson at approximately 3 p.m.
Results from all games Friday and Saturday will determine Marshall's final opponent on Sunday.
