Herd Softball Drops Clemson Classic Finale

CLEMSON, S.C. — Marshall Softball ended its third weekend of the season with an 8-0 five inning loss to the hosts, Clemson at McWhorter Stadium.

The Herd (5-7) finishes the weekend 2-2 with wins over Elon and 2024 NCAA Regional team Villanova. Clemson (9-6) finishes as the Clemson Classic Champions as the Tigers look to reach its fifth-consecutive NCAA Regional in 2025.

"The Herd played very hard this weekend," Head Coach Morgan Zerkle said. "Of course there were mistakes and we're never satisfied, but Elon and Villanova were quality wins. I'm proud to see the team progressing, new people stepping up, and playing teams like Clemson are only going to make us better."

Marshall sophomore Emily Cole made her best appearance with the Thundering Herd, striking out two across two innings of work in relief.

Offensively, the Herd was limited to four hits, highlighted by a two-out triple by Diamond Leslie. The speedy freshman had three three-baggers over the course of the weekend after knocking a pair of RBI triples Saturday.

Marshall continues its challenging schedule next weekend, traveling to Love's Field, home of the four-time defending champion Oklahoma Sooners.
