Herd tied for ninth after 1st day of 54-hole event
ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – Marshall graduate student J.F. Aber sits in 12th place at 2-under par after the first day of competition at the 2025 Peoples Championship at Sea Palms Resort in St. Simons, Georgia.
As a team, Marshall sits in 9th place out of 20 teams but is just six shots out of a top-5 team standing as competition heads into day two at Sea Palms.
"We had a good day today," Marshall Men's Golf coach Matt Grobe said. "J.F. played solid golf and shot a nine 2-under 69 to lead us. Ryan had a nice round of 71 and Joseph Kalaskey also played well to shoot 72. We are still making a few mistakes that are stopping us from playing our best, but I feel really good about this team's potential."
Aber finished the day with four birdies and an eagle – that coming on the par-5 13th hole – to finish at 2-under par.
Bilby joined Aber at 2-under for the majority of the round, but had a double-bogey on the last hole that dropped him back to Even par on the day.
The beauty of the day for the Herd is that every golfer competing on the team side had at least two birdies in their round, meaning there are plenty of opportunities to score and move up the leaderboard over the next two days of action.
