Herd Softball Battles Past Ohio, 3-2

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Marshall Softball (15-12, 3-0 SBC) won its third in a row with a hard-fought 3-2 win over the Preseason MAC favorites, Ohio (17-8).
Junior Paige Maynard had her best start in a Thundering Herd uniform, pitching into the seventh while striking out two, earning the victory.
"I think just sticking to the plans that the coaches have," Maynard said. "They do a lot of pitch scouting and calling, so just trusting them. Also trusting the defense, they made a lot of great plays behind me, they had my back. Going in there and attacking the batter and just sticking with the plan the coaches provided."

Sophomore Haleigh Adkins had a season-high nine assists at short, including her double play turned in the 4th.

The Herd started early, scoring in the opening frame for the third game in a row. Senior Bub Feringa went the opposite way with the lefty-on-lefty matchup to score fellow senior Kasia Parks.

Feringa would close out the game as well, securing the final two outs for her second career save.
Marshall's offense made the most of its five hits, taking a two-run lead with a solo shot from Parks in the 2nd. Chandler Hoskins knocked an RBI rip to left to score what would be the winning-run for the Herd in the 4th.
Marshall returns to Sun Belt Conference play Friday to begin a three-game series at JMU (11-13, 0-3 SBC).
