Marshall Softball Completes Road Sweep of JMU

3/23/2025 4:32:00 PM | Softball

HARRISONBURG, Va. — Marshall Softball (19-13, 5-1 SBC) won its sixth straight with a 7-6 series-sweeping win over JMU (11-16, 0-6 SBC).

The Herd has now won 13 of its last 15 games. Head Coach Morgan Zerkle's side currently leads the Sun Belt Conference after two weekends of play.

"Super proud of this team for staying focused all weekend and getting the sweep," Zerkle said. "Fully believe the best is still yet to come for this group. They get better every day. I hope we can get an amazing crowd out at the Dot this week as we host Pitt midweek and a good Texas State team this weekend."

The sweep is Marshall's seventh in the SBC era (2023-present).

Senior Bub Feringa started for the third-consecutive day and earned the win in the circle. She battled through 4.2 innings pitched, allowing just one earned run on 93 pitches.

Feringa turned the ball over to Paige Maynard and Jules King, who closed the win. King earned her first save for the Herd with a drama-free final inning, striking out two.

As it has throughout the Herd's hot streak, hitting played a role Sunday with home runs from Chandler Hoskins and Rielly Lucas.

Hoskins hit her third of the weekend to tie the game in the 4th. The team-leading ninth home run and fourth of the weekend for Lucas ended up being the winning seventh run for MU after JMU scored four in the bottom half of the 6th.

Brooklyn Ulrich, Haleigh Adkins and Diamond Leslie drove in Marshall's other five runs. Pinch-runner Ava Blake played a key role in the team's three-run 5th by escaping a rundown between third base and home. She would score on the Leslie hit up the middle.

The Herd will host Pitt on Tuesday, Mar. 25 at 4 p.m. from Dot Hicks Field before welcoming Texas State starting on Friday, Mar. 28.
