Freshman Diamond Leslie Has Career-Day in Herd’s Series Finale

MOBILE, Ala. — Marshall Softball (23-19, 9-6 SBC) dropped its series finale at South Alabama (17-24, 6-8 SBC) in a 10-9 back-and-forth slugfest.
Freshman Diamond Leslie had a day to remember in the defeat, with four hits, two of which were home runs, while matching a career-high five runs batted in.

She finished a remarkable weekend in Mobile with eight hits in 11 at-bats (.727) with three home runs and nine RBI.
Leslie's two-run shot in the 1st was followed by a three-run blast by Bub Feringa as the Herd scored five out of the gate. The Herd's freshman drove in Paige Simpson an inning later to retake the lead after the hosts tied it with five of their own in its first plate appearance.
Marshall's freshman hit a no-doubter in the 5th before tying the game an inning later in the team's two-run rally in the 6th.
Ultimately the Herd would fall on a walk off hit for the second time in as many weeks in the rubber game of a weekend series.
After two weeks on the road, Marshall will return home to face the team it is tied for third place with, Coastal Carolina. Thursday's series opener is at 6 p.m.
