Softball Returns Home to Face Coastal Carolina

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - After two weeks on the road, Marshall softball (23-19, 9-6 SBC) returns home to Dot Hicks Field to face Coastal Carolina (33-12, 9-6 SBC).Â
The Herd and Chanticleers enter the weekend tied for third place in the SBC. First pitch for Thursday's series opener is set for 6 p.m.

Coach Morgan Zerkle
- Marshall is in its second season under Head Coach Morgan Zerkle. The 2017 All-American for the Herd led the team that season with a .476 average en route to a NCAA Tournament appearance. The Herd has made two NCAA Regionals in its history (2013 & 2017). Â
- Zerkle - the Milton, West Virginia native - has been drafted to the AUSL's Bandits this past January, alongside Assistant Coach Sydney McKinney.Â
MARSHALL NOTES
- The Herd returns to the friendly confines of Dot Hicks Field, where the team is 11-3 this season. By Thursday it will have been nearly a month since senior Rielly Lucas hit a walk off home run to defeat Texas State. Lucas is tied for third in the league with 13 home runs. A pair of Coastal hitters lead the league in long balls, Delaney Keith (17) and Georgia Hood (15). Â
- Freshman Diamond Leslie leads the team with a .405 average. Leslie had a blistering weekend at South Alabama, going 8-of-11 with three home runs and nine RBI. She earned NFCA honorable mention recognition.Â

ABOUT COASTAL CAROLINA
- The Chanticleers (.309) are one of three teams in the league with a higher batting average than the Herd. With its 71 home runs, Coastal has 20 more home runs than the Herd, who is second in the league as a team.Â
- Coastal relies heavily on senior lefty pitcher Nicolette Picone with her conference-leading 162.1 IP. The reigning SBC Pitcher of the Week is second in the conference with a 1.74 ERA. Â
- The Herd is 7-9 all-time against the Chanticleers. Coastal won two-of-three in Huntington last season.Â
