Marshall Men’s Golf’s Sam O’Dell Named To West Virginia Golf Hall of Fame

MU Athletics Hall of Famer, Hurricane native has many WVGA titles to his credit
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Former Marshall Men's Golf standout Sam O'Dell was one of three inductees named to the 13th Class of the West Virginia Golf Hall of Fame recently.
O'Dell starred for Marshall's Men's Golf team and legendary head coach Joe Feaganes from 1996-2000. He was later inducted into the Marshall Athletics Hall of Fame in 2020.
The Hurricane native was an Academic All-American as a senior in 1999-2000 – one of only two Marshall players to earn that award - while earning First-Team All-District.
O'Dell led Marshall's team in stroke average in his final three years with the team and his 74.3 scoring average as a freshman in 1997 set a Marshall freshman record.
Following his Marshall career, O'Dell's success continued as he won the West Virginia Amateur in 2013, 2015, 2017 and 2018 – many of those victories earning him an exemption to the PGA's Greenbrier Classic.
O'Dell won three consecutive WVGA Player of the Year awards from 2013-15 and also won the West Virginia Mid-Amateur on six occasions and competed in several USGA events through the years, advancing to match play in multiple US Mid-Amateurs.
Prior to Marshall, O'Dell first made his mark as the 1996 West Virginia Junior Amateur Champion – a victory that propelled him into his illustrious career with the Herd.
O'Dell is joined in the 13th Class of the West Virginia Golf Hall of Fame by David Bradshaw and the late Mike Krak. The induction ceremony for the three golfers will take place later this year at a time & location to be determined.
