Women’s Soccer Edges Wright State, 2-1, in Hard-Fought Road Victory

8/27/2025 9:43:00 PM | Women's Soccer

DAYTON, Ohio – Marshall (4-0) remained perfect on the season with a 2-1 win over Wright State on Wednesday night, using first-half goals from Kajsa Ekstrom and Laura Rodriguez to build an early cushion before surviving a tense second half at Alumni Field.

Marshall grabbed the lead in the 37th minute as Kajsa Ekstrom finished off the corner placed in by Fernanda Dantas. The Herd doubled their advantage just five minutes later when substitute Laura Rodriguez scored her first in a Herd uniform with help from Brooklyn McComas and Bailey Fisher, sending Marshall into halftime up 2-0.

Wright State turned up the pressure after the break and cut the deficit to 2-1 in the 54th minute on a finish by Ruby Dunlevy. The hosts continued to press for an equalizer, but Emma Durand anchored the defense with four saves, including two critical stops in the closing minutes. Marshall's back line, led by Ekstrom, managed several crucial clearances as time wound down.

Marshall finished with 12 shots (8 on target) against 10 attempts from Wright State, but it was the Herd's early efficiency and late defensive resilience that proved decisive. The bench contributed as Rodriguez supplied the eventual game-winner in a high-stakes road test.

With the victory, Marshall remains unbeaten at 4-0-0, having conceded just two goals through four matches. As was the case Sunday, the Herd's road win over the Raiders on Wednesday was its first in program history.
