HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Former Marshall Men's Golf standout Christian Brand advanced to the Quarterfinals of Match Play at the 2025 U.S. Mid-Amateur this week at Troon Country Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Brand rallied back on Tuesday evening to earn a win in 19 holes over Marc Dull that put him in Wednesday's quarterfinals, but he ran into a hot golfer as Virginia's Evan Beck – the defending U.S. Mid-Am champion – defeated him 3 and 2 on Wednesday to end his run.

"We are so happy for Christian!" Marshall Men's Golf coach Matt Grobe said. "He really had a chance to beat anyone there, but today, he ran into a hot golfer that performed just a bit better than his 1-under. Still, we're so proud of him and Noah (Mullens) for representing Marshall on the big stage in Match Play at the U.S. Mid-Amateur."

Brand tried to rally back late on Wednesday with a birdie at the par-3 15th hole, but Beck matched his birdie to end the comeback attempt and closed him out on the next hole.

It was the end of a great week for Brand, who earned three Match Play victories prior to Wednesday's loss to Beck.

On Tuesday, Brand – the 26th ranked player in Match Play – started the day with a 2 & 1 win over No. 7 Nahum Mendoza, which put him in the Round of 16.

There, Brand trailed by two holes at the turn and looked like he was in trouble, but he found a way to birdie the final hole to bring the match All Square before winning it with a birdie on the first playoff hole to move him into the quarterfinals.

After shooting 1-over in Stroke Play to advance to Match Play, Brand made quick work of Preston Dembowiak, defeating him 4 & 3.

Brand was not the only Marshall representative in the field for the U.S. Mid-Amateur this week as Marshall volunteer golf coach and former Herd golfer Noah Mullens also advanced to Match Play.

Mullens shot an opening day 71 (Even) in stroke play and ended with a +3 in his second round to move on to Match Play.

However, Mullens ran into Louisville's Matt Liston in Match Play and Liston used a birdie on the par-4, 14th hole that gave some cushion in a 2 & 1 win over Mullens.
