QUEENS, N.Y. – The No. 2 Marshall Men's Soccer team (1-0-2) drew 1-1 in the team's first road contest of the season at St. John's on Friday in Queens.

"I thought we did really well under the conditions," Herd Men's Soccer Head Coach Chris Grassie said after the match. "Our group is still learning and gelling together. This is a tough place to play, it's on top of a parking lot and the field literally shakes like there's an earthquake constantly. But we battled through and played well. After we went down to ten men, we actually had our most controlled period of the game. Hard lessons learned tonight for us, but we'll be all the better for it."

Dan Rose made a pair of key saves in the 27th and 28th minutes to keep St. John's off the board as match went into halftime scoreless.

After the scoreless first half, The Herd's breakthrough came in the 54th minute when Larry Noel collected a loose ball and fired a left-footed shot low to the bottom right corner, giving Marshall a 1-0 lead, on his second goal of the season. Marshall grew into the attack during the second half, registering six of its seven total shots after the break.

Defender Braian Amaro received a red card in 72nd minute, leaving Marshall a man down for the remainder of the contest. Less than a minute later, the Red Storm leveled the contest 1-1 on a Jeremy Sharp goal.

Marshall held stout on defense the rest of the contest not allowing another shot on target the rest of the way.

MU's Joao Roberto had an opportunity with 15 seconds left, but he saw his free kick saved by goalkeeper Alec McLachlan as the match ended in a draw.
