Herd Suffers First Conference Defeat, Sees Winning Streak Snapped in Loss at JMU

HARRISONBURG, Va. – Marshall Women's Basketball saw its 10-game winning streak and unbeaten Sun Belt Conference record halted Thursday night, falling to JMU 80-43. The Herd dropped to 15-4 overall and 6-1 in league play after a difficult outing against the defending regular season conference champions.
The highly anticipated matchup between two of the Sun Belt's leading programs quickly tilted in favor of the hosts, as the Dukes opened the contest with a commanding 27-2 run. Marshall was held to a season-low in points in the first quarter.
Timaya Lewis-Eutsey led Marshall with eight points and four rebounds, reaching 1,000 for her collegiate career, but saw her streak of 10 straight double-digit scoring games come to an end. The Herd's offense struggled throughout the night, managing a season-low 43 points.
"We talked about it in the locker room and a couple times in the game, 'how are we going to respond to this?' because while today does not have to define the season, it can one way or another," Head Coach Juli Fulks said. "We can be a team that comes out and rallies and reboots or we could be the team that takes a couple lumps on the chin. [The team] has shown they have a lot of character and fight so I believe we are going to be the first one but we need to make sure we are the first one."
