Marshall Women's Basketball Falls in Overtime Heartbreaker at Old Dominion, 84-82

NORFOLK, Va. – Marshall Women's Basketball rallied from 20 points down in the second half to force overtime, but fell in the final seconds of the extra period with a 84-82 loss at Old Dominion in a Sun Belt Conference road contest Saturday. Marshall moves to 15-5 overall and 6-2 in conference play.
The Herd trailed by 10 after one quarter and faced a daunting 17-point deficit at the half with Old Dominion shooting 69 percent from the floor. However, Marshall ramped up its defense after the break, forcing 19 turnovers and outscoring the Monarchs 35-18 in the second half to erase the gap.
"On one level, I'm really disappointed we didn't get that win, on another level I'm a little relieved that we found ourselves and competed again. This was not our best week of basketball, it's always hard being on the road, we have two more on the road next week but we need to build off those two quarters and find ourselves again."
Senior Timaya Lewis-Eutsey powered the Herd, scoring 31 points and tying her season-high with 11 made free throws, including the tying make to send the game into the Herd's third overtime of league play..
In her third 30-point game of the season and second against Old Dominion in 10 days, Lewis-Eutsey shot 10-for-23 from the floor and 11-for-14 at the line, also leading Marshall in assists (six) and steals (seven).
Meredith Maier provided key support, hitting 4-of-8 from three-point range, including two from the corner in overtime. to finish with 14 points and securing a team-high six rebounds. Off the bench, Kassie Ingram reached the 100-point mark for the season, contributing eight points on perfect shooting (3-for-3, including 2-for-2 from deep) in 17 minutes.
Marshall's resilience was on full display as the team held Old Dominion to just 6 points in the fourth quarter, forcing overtime despite being outrebounded 39-28 for the game. The Herd's aggressive defense generated 13 steals and led to 19 points off turnovers. In the extra period, the teams traded baskets before Old Dominion's Simaru Fields sealed the result with two free throws in the final seconds.
