Marshall Travels to Florida Classic Hosted by No. 5 Gators

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall University Softball hits the final leg of its season-opening Florida swing as it travels to Katie Seashole Pressly Softball Stadium at the University of Florida.
The Herd will play five games across three days with two contests coming against the ESPN/USA Today No. 5 Gators.Â

Coach Morgan Zerkle
- Head Coach Morgan Zerkle enters her 3rd season as head coach at her alma mater. The 2017 All-American for the Herd led the team that season with a .476 average en route to a NCAA Tournament appearance. The Herd has made two NCAA Regionals in its history (2013 & 2017). Â
- Marshall vaulted up to a 2nd place finish in the Sun Belt Conference in season two under Zerkle. The Herd improved its win total by six games with five more SBC victories from the season prior.Â
- Zerkle - the Milton, West Virginia native - plays professionally for the AUSL's Chicago Bandits. She is also on the active Team USA Softball roster.Â
MARSHALL NOTES
- Marshall has a 4-3 record over its first seven games, with five of those contests coming against 2025 NCAA Tournament teams. The opening gauntlet run will feature two more tournament sides with Georgia Tech and a Florida team who appeared in the WCWS last season.Â
- In the two midweek contests for the Herd, MU pitching allowed five earned runs over 15 innings pitched. Between Jules King, Rylan Miller, and Maddie Veal, the pitching staff combined for 15 strikeouts over that span. Â
- "Team 33" features 13 returners and eight newcomers to Coach Zerkle's squad.
ABOUT FIU
- FIU is off to a 6-0 start following a perfect weekend at home where it twice defeated Louisville.Â
- The Herd and Panthers will meet for the first time since it was together in the Conference USA. Marshall leads the all-time series, 17-10, with 16 of those victories coming between 2014 and 2022.Â
ABOUT FLORIDA
- Florida is ranked No. 5 following a perfect 7-0 start to its season. The Gators are coming off its 13th WCWS appearance in 2025.
- UF has been picked 4th in the SEC Preseason Poll with three players - Jocelyn Erickson, Keagan Rothrock, and Taylor Shumaker making the Preseason All-SEC Team.Â
- The Gators lead the all-time series, 5-0.
ABOUT GEORGIA TECH
- Georgia Tech is 5-2 this season with its losses coming to No. 16 Alabama. The Yellow Jackets played in the Gainesville Regional last year in the NCAA Tournament.Â
- GT leads the series all-time, 5-0.
