Herd Heads to Liberty for Final Tune-up Before SBC Indoor Championships

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Marshall Track & Field competes in its final meet before the 2026 Sun Belt Conference Indoor Championships, the Darius Dixon Invitational hosted by Liberty.
"This is our final rehearsal before the championship," Director of T&F Keith Roberts said. "We had a great week of practice and after some big performances the morale is high. We still have to move up in a few areas but we are definitely piecing everything together. There will be some great competition in this meet. We have to make finals and give ourselves an opportunity to improve going into conference."
The two-day meet starts at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13 with events running through 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 14.

With one meet to go before the SBC Championships, Marshall currently has over 25 athletes ranked in the Top-10 in the league's performance list. Several athletes are currently in scoring positions in multiple events, including Justin Lipscomb (Mile, 3K).
"We're excited to compete there this weekend," said Lipscomb. "At the end of the day, it's a good chance to get a little more experience before our conference meet."
From a rankings perspective, Marshall has six different event groups ranked Top-50 in the nation, headlined by the Men's Triple Jump. The group composed of Trashaun Smith, Otenidi Omot, Cam Hamby, and Grant Swider are ranked 5th.Â
Marshall will turn to its veterans as championship season nears, including Bay'Andria Hodges. The Herd's junior sprinter was a member of a scoring 4x100 relay team last year.Â
"I would tell everyone to stay positive, be confident in our training, go out there and compete, but most importantly have fun while doing it and to support each other," said Hodges.
