Herd honors six seniors prior to game; will be No. 5 seed in SBC Tournament
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall Women's Basketball ended its 2025-26 regular season with a 78-72 overtime loss to Georgia Southern in front of 2,543 fans at Cam Henderson Center on Friday evening.
With the loss, Marshall is now 23-8 on the season and finishes at 13-5 in the Sun Belt Conference, which is good for the No. 5 seed in next week's SBC Tournament.
"We know we can play with everybody," Marshall Women's Basketball coach Juli Fulks said after the close loss. "Now, we need to string some good wins together."
As the No. 5 seed, Marshall will play at 12:30 p.m. ET/11:30 a.m. CT on Friday in the fourth round of the 2026 SBC Tournament at the Pensacola Bay Center against an opponent to be determined.
Marshall was led by senior Timaya Lewis-Eutsey, who scored 22 points and grabbed eight rebounds while adding four assists and four steals. Sophomore Timberlynn Yeast added a career-high 18 points for the Herd.
Yeast scored on a three-point play with 17.6 seconds left to knot the game at 70-all and send the game to overtime. However, the Eagles were able to use a quick six-point spurt in the extra session to earn the win.
Georgia Southern used a big run to open the second half to build an eight-point advantage, but Lewis-Eutsey countered by leading the Herd on a late 13-3 run to give the Herd a lead before a 3-pointer by the Eagles at the buzzer gave Georgia Southern a 57-56 lead after three quarters, which set the stage for the exciting finish.
The Herd took a 38-33 lead into the locker room after Lewis-Eutsey hit a 3-pointer just before the halftime horn to give the Herd a boost.
Lewis-Eutsey and Yeast combined for 21 first-half points while Blessing King also had a huge effort early with seven points and six rebounds off the bench in the first half. She finished with nine points and 11 rebounds for the Herd.
The Herd defense allowed just one field goal over a 5:30 stretch of the second quarter to build the five-point lead at the break.
Prior to the game, the Herd honored six seniors who were playing in their final game with the Herd: Lewis-Eutsey, King, Peyton Ilderton, Meredith Maier, Aarionna Redman and TreShondra Williams.
"This is such a great group of seniors," Fulks said. "We ended up with six seniors who are really special people. I know they won't feel it tonight, but 23 wins is a lot of good, and they have a chance to go do something else. They aren't satisfied, and that's what I like about them. Whether here six years, four years, two or one, they have committed to Marshall and the Huntington community and done everything they can to represent this school to the best of their ability and put a product out that the community and fan base and athletic department can be really proud of."
