Marshall Softball Battles Past Miami (Ohio), 5-4

3/24/2026 6:41:00 PM | Softball

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Marshall Softball came out on top of a battle of 20-win teams with a 5-4 victory Tuesday over Miami (Ohio). Junior Haleigh Adkins powered the Herd with three hits and three RBI, including what would be the decisive two-run home run in the 3rd to give Coach Morgan Zerkle's side its sixth-straight victory.

"Miami is a great mid-major team so I am glad our offense showed up, our pitching was there and we got the job done," Head Coach Morgan Zerkle said. "It was a good midweek matchup and glad we could get the win."

Adkins punctuated Marshall's three-run 3rd which all came with two outs and no on. Chandler Hoskins hit her second home run in as many games before Ava Blake's single was followed by the Adkins opposite field shot.

The Herd manufactured a similar rally in the 1st with a productive RBI groundout from Blake before Adkins shot a groundball through the right side to give MU the 2-1 advantage after the opening frame.

Pitching worked around the potent RedHawk offense with starter Paige Maynard earning her sixth win in the circle. Maynard went four innings before turning the ball over to Jules King for the final three frames. Each struck out one as King worked around some nervy moments in the final inning to secure the victory and earn her fourth save of the season.

Adkins and Hoskins combined for five of Marshall's seven hits as the team had a few opportunities to break the game open but fell into some bad luck, including liners from Blake and Paige Simpson caught to end Herd rallies.

Marshall is now 8-0 at Dot Hicks Field this season and has won 14 of its last 15 games.
