YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Marshall Women's Basketball advanced through the Super 16 of the WNIT on Friday evening, earning a dominant 72-46 win over Youngstown State at Zidian Family Arena at Beeghly Center in Youngstown, Ohio.

With the win, Marshall moves to 25-9 on the season, standing alone with the second-most wins in a single season in program history.

"I thought we had a really good effort tonight," Marshall head coach Juli Fulks said. "This is now our second week where we've had really good practices and really good preparation, and I thought you could see that we understood we would need to be really physical inside. Leyocha (Marigney)led that charge with how we defended."

The Herd now returns to Cam Henderson Center for a Great 8 matchup at 6 p.m. on Monday when the team hosts Army. Tickets for Monday's matchup will go on sale at Noon on Saturday HERE.

Marshall advanced to the Great 8 by using a dominant interior presence on Friday to power past the Penguins.

The Herd scored 48 points in the paint – including its first 20 points of the game from the floor – and owned a 20-8 edge in second-chance points.

Defensively, Marshall (25-9) was just as stout, limiting Youngstown State to a 29 percent shooting performance while forcing 16 turnovers in the contest.

"We did such a good job of keeping them off-balance that, when they were shooting threes, they were having to work to get them up and doing it on move," Fulks said. "Defensively, it was a great effort."

Timaya Lewis-Eutsey led the Herd with 20 points while adding six steals and four assists.

The game's most pivotal performance came from Marigney, who finished with a career-high 14 points while grabbing a team-best seven rebounds and adding five blocks in a physical game underneath.

The Herd also got 14 points from Meredith Maier, who hit four 3-pointers in the contest, and 12 points and seven rebounds from Timberlynn Yeast.

The game's most pivotal run came in the final stages of the first half after Marigney had beaten the Youngstown State defense back down-court for a layup that countered a YSU score as the Penguins looked to mount a comeback.

Marshall's defense then took over the last 3:45 of the first half, keeping the Penguins scoreless to build a 36-24 halftime advantage.

Marigney set her career-high before halftime, scoring 11 of her 14 points to give the Herd a big momentum boost going into the locker room.
