HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Marshall sophomore Maddie Veal pitched her second-consecutive complete game shutout as Coach Morgan Zerkle's Herd (16-8) won its seventh in a row with a 4-0 Saturday morning victory over Akron.
Veal has thrown 15 straight scoreless innings over her last three appearances. As a whole, the Herd's pitching staff has held its opponents to one run over its first 20 innings of Marshall March Madness.

"Today was great!" said Veal. "We had an awesome turn out for an early game! I'm super excited to pitch more home games this season!"
Chandler Hoskins broke through for Marshall in the 4th with a RBI double to the gap to score a pinch-running Makayla Taylor and Ava Blake. MU added on two more an inning later with runs batted in from Bella Gerlach and Blake.
Any runs were good for Veal who allowed just two Zip runners to reach scoring position. The Herd pitching staff has a 0.89 ERA over its last two weekends.
Marshall closes its home-opening weekend and the Marshall March Madness invitational against Canisius at 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
