Herd Earns Win No. 30 in Series Opener at Coastal Carolina

CONWAY, S.C. — Marshall Softball (30-10, 11-2 SBC) jumped out early with six runs in the first three innings to top Coastal Carolina Friday evening, 6-3. Diamond Leslie's three-run home run lifted the Herd offense while Jules King worked around the Chanticleers with six strikeouts in seven innings.

The Herd - which entered the weekend on top of the Sun Belt Conference standings - collected three consecutive hits with Bella Gerlach and Paige Simpson singles preceding the Leslie homer in the 2nd. MU scored three more an inning later, taking advantage of a pair of home miscues. Leslie and Ava Blake collected the RBI on errors from fielders choices
King made the crucial pitches count, Coastal had its first two reach in back-to-back innings in the 3rd and 4th. Marshall's junior pitcher got a pair of strikeouts in the 3rd before working out of the 4th to keep the home side off the board in front of a sold-out St. John's Stadium.
A trio of solo home runs were the lone scores from the Chanticleers, a team closest behind the Herd's league-leading 71 home runs. King induced a lineout to short to seal the victory after back-to-back two out solo shots.
With the 30 wins, MU is one victory away from matching its total in 2025. The Herd is the first team to 30 wins in the SBC.
