Five-Run 4th Lifts Herd to Road Victory over EKU

RICHMOND, Ky. — Marshall Softball earned win number 35 this season with a 6-1 victory over EKU Tuesday afternoon on the road. The Herd (35-12) struck for five runs in the 4th, highlighted by a two-run Ava Blake RBI base knock

Junior Jules King secured her 14th win in the circle this season with six innings of three-hit softball, striking out five while holding the Colonels to one run. Senior Paige Maynard closed out the game with a scoreless final frame.
The Herd's home run leader Sydni Burko tied the game with a solo shot to leadoff the 3rd. Burko has 18 homers this season, tied for 5th all-time in program history with Rachel Folden in 2006.

The onslaught came in the following inning as the Herd hit around in the decisive five-run 4th. Burko walked with the bases loaded - one of three in the frame - to give MU its first lead before Blake's rip off the pitcher's glove.
In total, Marshall had 10 hits, its 13th game with double digit base knocks this season. Burko and Paige Simpson had multi-hit games Tuesday.
The 35 wins achieved by Head Coach Morgan Zerkle's Herd is the 12th time in program history the team has reached that total.
UP NEXT
The Herd travels to Lafayette, Louisiana for what will be its first of two trips over the next three weeks with the 2026 SBC Championship being held at the home of the Ragin' Cajuns. Marshall's opener with UL is set for 7 p.m. eastern, 6 p.m. local time on Friday, Apr. 24.
