Marshall Softball Earns No. 2 Seed In Sun Belt Tournament

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall Softball will be the No. 2 seed in the upcoming 2026 Sun Belt Conference Softball Tournament, which gets underway on Wednesday at Yvette Girouard Field in Lafayette, Louisiana.
As the No. 2 seed, Marshall will play in Thursday's quarterfinal contest against the winner of No. 7 seed Georgia Southern and No. 10 Coastal Carolina. That quarterfinal matchup will be at 2 p.m. ET/1 p.m. CT and be shown on ESPN+.
The Herd earned the No. 2 seed after finishing with a 17-7 record in Sun Belt Conference play, which wrapped up with a 5-0 loss to James Madison in Saturday's regular-season finale at Dot Hicks Field.
"Thankfully, we have some more ball to play at the tournament next week," Marshall head coach Morgan Zerkle said. "I don't think anyone will be too excited to see us on their side of the bracket. Hopefully, we can still play up to our level and have some better softball in the near future."
On Saturday, Marshall honored its three seniors – Paige Maynard, Paige Simpson and Abby Darnley – prior to their loss to the Dukes.
Tia Titi had a hit off the top of the wall in left field that served as one of the day's highlights for the Herd. Chandler Hoskins had the team's only other hit as JMU earned the series win.
Marshall heads into the Sun Belt Conference Tournament with the league's highest RPI at 27. All 10 teams in the SBC Tournament are ranked in the top-90 in the nation in RPI, making for an exciting week of softball in Louisiana for the conference tournament.
The 2026 Sun Belt Conference Softball Championship is set for 2:30 p.m. on May 9 and will be shown nationally on ESPN2.
