Carl Romberg Named to Preseason All-SBC Team

Herd Men’s Soccer picked second in Sun Belt Preseason Coaches Poll

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall University Men's Soccer senior Carl Romberg was named to the 2026 Preseason All-Sun Belt Conference Team, with the Herd being picked second in the SBC Preseason Coaches Poll, as announced by the league office on Wednesday.
Romberg, a native of Werl, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, led Marshall with a team-high 15 points as he led the team with five assists and finished tied for the team-lead in goals at five with Joao Roberto. Romberg registered a two-goal contest in the regular-season finale against UCF (Nov. 4) before opening the SBC Tournament with three assists in the quarterfinals against Georgia State (Nov. 9).
The Thundering Herd has been ranked in every poll since entering the poll 2,481 days ago on October 19, 2019.
Marshall is coming off a 12-4-5 season in 2025 after reaching its seventh consecutive NCAA Tournament.
MU is set for an exhibition at home against Charleston on August 15 before opening the 2026 regular season at Hoops Family Field against Fairfield on August 20.
