Wilks was named an assistant strength and conditioning coach in March of 2012. He works with Marshall[apos]s football program, among his other duties with the department. Wilks returns to Marshall after two and a half years at Hofstra, where he first served as an assistant strength and conditioning coach and then in the department[apos]s top position. Wilks[apos] primary responsibility was coordinating the strength and conditioning programs for Hofstra[apos]s men[apos]s and women[apos]s basketball programs. Wilks spent the previous four years as a graduate assistant in Marshall[apos]s strength and conditioning program, where he worked with the basketball, football, baseball, soccer, softball and volleyball teams. He assisted in implementing yearly strength and conditioning programs for the teams he worked with, as well as developing testing for measuring progress in strength, flexibility, speed, agility and body composition. In addition, Wilks prepared weekly progress reports that were given to the coaching staffs. He also took part in recruiting presentations for the football, baseball, softball and soccer programs and assisted in game day operations. During his work with the basketball team, Wilks assisted in implementing plyometric, flexibility and injury prevention programs, as well as speed and agility drills. A four-year letterwinner on the Thundering Herd[apos]s football team, Wilks is a 2005 graduate of Marshall, where he was a Dean[apos]s List student. He earned his master[apos]s in physical education from Marshall in 2008 and his master[apos]s in special education in 2009. Wilks, a native of Maryville, Tennessee, is a member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association and holds first aid and CPR certifications.
